Shopify Agency for Coffee Brands and Roasters Selling Fresh Beans Online

We are a Shopify agency for coffee brands: independent roasters, specialty coffee companies, and brands that sell beans, pods or ready-to-drink coffee direct to customers. Coffee is a freshness product with a subscription habit built in, and most roasters already know that. The hard part is running it online: matching orders to roast days, keeping grind and bag-size options tidy, holding onto subscribers after the first few bags, and selling to cafes without a second system.

We cover six services for coffee stores: organic search, store development, Google and Meta ads, conversion work, email and operations automation. For the wider picture of how our work changes by sector, see the industries we work with.

01

What makes a coffee store different

Coffee looks like any packaged product until you plan the operations. A few things set it apart:

  • Roast date is the freshness signal. Buyers of specialty coffee care about when the beans were roasted, not only when they expire. The store has to show it and the roastery has to hit it.
  • Options multiply quickly. One origin can come as whole bean or ground for espresso, filter, stovetop or cafetiere, in two or three bag sizes. A range of fifteen coffees becomes a large variant set.
  • Production runs on a roast schedule. Many roasters roast on set days, so orders need to be batched by roast day and by coffee, not handled one at a time.
  • Subscriptions are the core customer. A regular coffee drinker finishes a bag on a fairly predictable cycle, which suits recurring deliveries and "roaster's choice" rotations.
  • Buyers want to learn. Tasting notes, processing method, altitude, brew ratios and recipes are part of the purchase, especially for newer specialty buyers.
  • Equipment sells alongside beans. Grinders, brewers, scales and filters raise order value and bring different margins and shipping.
  • Wholesale is a second business. Cafes, restaurants and offices order larger bags on account, often with standing orders and trade pricing.

If you sell a wider food and drink range, with chilled goods, hampers or local delivery, our food and beverage brands page is the better fit.

02

Coffee SEO: origins, brew methods and buying guides

Coffee searches range from very specific ("washed Ethiopian coffee beans", "decaf espresso beans") to broad and competitive ("coffee subscription", "best coffee beans"). Roaster sites often have strong products but thin category pages and no content that matches how people search.

Through our SEO service for Shopify stores, we typically build:

  • Collections by origin, roast level, process and brew method, so a search for "filter coffee beans" lands on a page made for it.
  • Product templates that hold origin, farm or cooperative, variety, process, altitude and tasting notes in metafields, displayed consistently on every coffee.
  • Handling for rotating single origins: when a lot sells out, the page is redirected or kept with an alternative, rather than left as a dead URL.
  • Brewing guides for methods your customers use, linked to the coffees and equipment that suit each method.
  • Subscription landing pages that answer the questions buyers ask: how often, how much, can I pause, can I change the coffee.
03

Store development for roasters

Our Shopify store development work for coffee brands starts with the catalogue model. Getting it right early keeps every later feature simpler.

Grind, size and roast date on the product page

We structure grind and bag size as variant options with clear defaults, show the next roast date or dispatch day from a metafield or app, and add brew-method guidance so a customer does not order espresso grind for a cafetiere.

Subscriptions on a roast schedule

We set up a subscription app on Shopify's selling plans so deliveries line up with your roast days. That includes frequency choices that match bag sizes, a customer portal for skip, pause and swap, and options for a fixed coffee or a rotating roaster's choice.

Equipment and bundles

Grinders and brewers often need their own product templates, specs and shipping settings. Starter kits that pair a brewer with beans are built so stock comes off both items.

Wholesale for cafes and offices

For roasters on Shopify Plus, Shopify Plus development covers B2B company accounts, trade catalogues, volume pricing and payment terms in the same store. On other plans a wholesale app can do a lighter version of this.

All work is staged on a duplicate theme, and you approve it on a preview link before launch.

04

Ads for coffee: Shopping feeds and subscription acquisition

Coffee ads compete with large brands and supermarkets on generic terms, so the account has to be precise about where it spends. Our Shopify ads management for roasters covers:

  • A Merchant Center feed where titles include origin, roast and grind, so Shopping ads match specific searches.
  • Custom labels that separate beans, equipment and subscriptions, because each has a different margin and payback.
  • Search campaigns for brew-method and origin queries, with brand terms kept in their own campaign.
  • Meta campaigns aimed at starting subscriptions, judged on the value of a subscriber over several deliveries rather than the first order alone.
  • Creative that shows the roast, the brew and the bag arriving, which tends to suit coffee better than static pack shots.
05

CRO: helping buyers choose a coffee

Many coffee shoppers stall because they cannot choose between six coffees they do not know. Our Shopify conversion optimisation work for roasters focuses on decision support:

  • A short quiz or filter by taste (chocolatey, fruity, bright) and brew method.
  • Clear subscription versus one-time pricing, showing the per-bag price and delivery frequency.
  • Roast date and dispatch day near the add to cart button.
  • Equipment cross-sells that are relevant to the chosen grind or method.
  • Free-shipping thresholds set around common bag combinations.
06

Email: keeping subscribers and one-off buyers brewing

Coffee is a habit, so email does a lot of the work. Our email marketing for Shopify programme for coffee brands includes:

  • A welcome series that explains your roasting approach and helps new buyers pick a first coffee.
  • Brew guides and recipe emails after the first order, set up through our post-purchase email flows, timed to arrive while the bag is being used.
  • Reorder prompts based on bag size, so a buyer of a small bag hears from you sooner than someone who bought a large one.
  • New-lot announcements for limited single origins, sent to the segment that bought similar coffees.
  • Subscriber messages before each shipment, with the coffee in the box and an easy skip option.

For customers who stop ordering, our win-back email campaigns define lapse by the buyer's own reorder cycle, then try a new coffee recommendation before any discount.

07

Automation for the roastery

Roasters lose hours to spreadsheets: counting what to roast, printing labels, splitting wholesale from retail. Our Shopify store automation service looks at that manual work and automates what is reliable.

Typical coffee workflows: a roast list that totals kilos per coffee from open orders and subscriptions due, orders tagged by roast day and grind, wholesale orders routed to a separate packing queue, and alerts when green coffee for a popular blend runs low. Shopify Flow handles many of these, and the rest use apps or custom scripts on the Admin API.

How we start with a coffee brand

  1. Audit and baseline. A technical crawl, Search Console and speed review, competitor gap analysis, and a look at your variant structure, subscription setup and roast-day operations. You receive the findings and baseline numbers in writing.
  2. Strategy and scope. A ranked plan with a realistic timeline. For many roasters the first priority is subscription retention or the catalogue model, before any new traffic. Scope is agreed before work begins.
  3. Build and fix. Template, subscription and workflow changes are made on a duplicate theme or test setup. You check each on a preview link, and nothing goes live without your sign-off.
  4. Launch and track. Changes go live on a day that suits your roast schedule. Ongoing work runs through a private client portal with monthly reporting and a monthly call.

Who we work with in coffee

We suit specialty roasters with a retail store and some wholesale, coffee brands growing a subscription base, companies moving a coffee shop's online store to Shopify, and established roasters on Shopify Plus that need B2B and retail in one place. Brands selling pods, capsules or cold brew fit as well. Roasters that also sell mugs, ceramics and serveware may find useful ideas on our home decor brands page, and those adding functional or wellness products to a subscription should also read our supplement brands page.

11

How pricing works

Every quote follows a look at your store, so there is no fixed price list. SEO, CRO and email are monthly retainers, sized by catalogue, list size and the number of flows. Ads management is a monthly retainer plus the ad spend you pay to Google and Meta. Builds and redesigns are fixed fees agreed after a discovery call, and automation is scoped after the audit. The pricing page explains each model.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Yes. We usually store the next roast or dispatch date in a metafield or pull it from an app, then show it near the add to cart button so buyers know how fresh their coffee will be.

As variant options on one product, not as separate products. That keeps reviews, SEO and stock together, and lets the page default to the most popular choice.

It depends on your needs. We choose an app built on Shopify's selling plans that supports your roast schedule, rotations and customer portal, then configure it around your operations.

Yes. Shopify Plus has B2B features for company accounts, wholesale catalogues and payment terms. On other plans, a wholesale app handles trade pricing with fewer options.

Yes, as part of SEO and email work. Guides are planned around what your customers search for and linked to the coffees and equipment they mention.

It depends on your starting point. Fixes to subscriptions and product pages can show up in weeks, while organic search usually takes several months to build.
