Shopify Blog Writing Services That Send Readers to Your Products
Most Shopify blogs stall for the same reason. Articles get written because the calendar says so, nobody checks whether shoppers search for the topic, and the finished post never points a reader toward a product. Our Shopify blog writing services fix that. We plan, write and publish articles in your store's built-in blog that answer the questions your buyers ask before they buy, show who wrote them and why that person knows the subject, and link into the collections and products you want to sell.
The service is for Shopify and Shopify Plus brands with a blog that sits idle, or one that gets visits but no sales. It is one part of our wider Shopify content marketing service, so every article is written to support search, email and revenue rather than to fill a slot.
What Shopify blog writing covers
Shopify blog writing is the planning, writing and publishing of articles in a store's native blog to reach shoppers while they are still researching, then move them to a product. A working blog programme picks topics by search intent, uses the article format that fits each intent, carries clear author and expertise signals, and links every article to the collection it supports.
That is different from writing collection page copy or buying guides that are meant to rank as landing pages. Those are commercial pages in their own right, and our SEO content writing for collections and buying guides covers them.
Why a Shopify blog needs a plan, not just posts
Buyers ask questions long before they type a product name. "How do I clean a wool rug", "what size collar does a labrador need" and "how to layer necklaces" all come from people who will buy something soon. A collection page cannot rank for those questions. An article can, and it can hand the reader straight to the right collection.
Without a plan, the symptoms are familiar: visitors read an article and leave without viewing a product, several posts compete for the same question, and publishing comes in bursts followed by months of silence. Useful articles also tend to earn links more easily than product or collection pages, and they give your email flows something to send besides a discount code.

Article formats we write, and when each one fits
How-to and care guides
Useful for products that need setup, care or technique: cast iron, leather goods, skincare routines, plant care, bike maintenance. These articles sit close to purchase and to repeat purchase, and they link naturally to the products and accessories used in each step.
Comparison articles
"Merino vs cotton for running", "gas vs charcoal grill for small patios". The article explains the trade-offs honestly and links to the collection for each option. When a comparison deserves to be a standing commercial page, we move it to our SEO content work instead.
Gift guides and seasonal roundups
Gift guides for holidays, birthdays and occasions work well for jewelry, home, pet and food and beverage stores. We publish them several weeks before the season peaks so they have time to be crawled, and we plan how to update the same URL each year instead of creating a new one.
Explainers and behind-the-product articles
Short, direct answers to definition questions ("what does full grain mean on a belt") earn visibility in answer boxes and AI summaries when the first paragraph answers plainly. Articles on how a product is made, sourced or tested carry first-hand detail that competitors cannot copy.
Choosing topics by search intent
Every topic has to pass three checks before it reaches the plan: people search for it, it links naturally to something you sell, and we can say something more useful than the pages already ranking. Topics that fail the second check get dropped, however much traffic they promise.
| Example query | Intent | Format | Where the article links |
|---|---|---|---|
| how to oil a teak outdoor table | Informational, near purchase | Care guide | Teak furniture collection and care products |
| merino vs synthetic base layer | Comparison | Comparison article | Base layers collection, filtered by material |
| gifts for new dog owners | Commercial, seasonal | Gift guide | Individual products across several collections |
| what does spf actually measure | Informational | Explainer | Sunscreen collection |
The bigger picture of which topic clusters the blog should own, and in what order, comes from content strategy and topic planning. If you already have that plan, we write to it. If you do not, we build a lighter version during the audit.
Expertise and author signals
Search engines and readers both want to know who is behind advice. On a Shopify blog, that means more than filling in the author field.
- Named authors with a short bio and relevant experience, shown through an author block in the article template. We can store author details in metaobjects so the bio stays consistent across every article.
- First-hand detail: your team's photos, testing notes, sizing observations and customer questions.
- Expert review for topics where accuracy matters, such as supplements, skincare ingredients or child safety products, with the reviewer named.
- Sources cited in the text where a claim needs support.
Named experts and original detail also make articles easier to pitch to journalists and editors. That authority work sits under off-page SEO and brand signals, and the blog feeds it.
Linking articles to collections and products
This is where most blogs lose money. Every article we write links to at least one collection or product in the body copy, where the reader is ready for it, not only in a footer.
- Contextual links in the copy to the collection that matches the topic.
- Product blocks inside the article. Online Store 2.0 article templates are JSON templates with sections and blocks, so we can add a featured product or collection section without custom code in most themes.
- Links back from collection pages to the most useful guides, so shoppers who need help deciding can find it.
- Links between related articles in the same cluster, so search engines see the topic as a connected group.
Strong articles also become targets for outreach. Our link acquisition for Shopify stores often points links at a guide first, then passes that value to the collection through these internal links.
Working within Shopify's blog structure
Shopify's blog is simple, and its limits shape how we organise content.
- URLs. Articles live at /blogs/blog-handle/article-handle. Many stores still use the default "news" handle, which says nothing about the content. We decide on blog handles before publishing at volume, because changing them later means redirects.
- No native categories. A Shopify blog has tags, not categories. When a store needs clear sections, we use separate blogs (for example "guides" and "journal") and keep tags to a short, controlled list.
- Tag pages. Every tag creates a /tagged/ URL listing matching articles. A long, messy tag list creates many thin pages, so we agree a tag set up front and flag indexing questions to the technical SEO side of the work.
- Handle changes. When an article handle is edited in Shopify Admin, there is an option to create a URL redirect. We make sure it is used so old links keep working.
- Search engine listing. Each article has its own SEO title and meta description fields. We write both instead of leaving Shopify to pull the first lines of copy.
- Templates. Alternate article templates let gift guides, how-tos and standard posts each use a layout that suits them.
Publishing cadence
Consistency matters more than volume. We set the cadence during scoping from your catalogue breadth, your trading calendar and the review time your team has. Seasonal articles are scheduled back from the date shoppers start searching, not the date of the holiday, and approved drafts can be given a future publish date in Shopify so nothing depends on someone being at a desk.
How a blog writing engagement runs
- Blog audit and baseline. We read every existing article in your Shopify Admin, pull clicks and impressions per article from Search Console, check which articles link to products, test article template load speed, and compare your blog with competitor blogs for missing topics. You get the audit and baseline numbers in writing.
- Topic plan and scope. Topics are ranked by intent, product fit and effort. We agree the number of articles per month, the formats and any template changes as a fixed scope before writing starts.
- Write, stage and review. Articles are drafted from approved briefs and loaded into Shopify as hidden articles you can preview. Any article template changes are built on a duplicated theme with a preview link. Nothing is published without your sign-off.
- Publish and track. Approved articles go live on the agreed schedule. You follow progress in a private client portal, receive a monthly report, and join a monthly call where we review results and choose the next topics.
The full working model is set out on our four-step process page.
What we measure
We report on metrics the blog can influence, never promised numbers:
- Organic clicks and impressions per article and per topic cluster
- Clicks from articles to collection and product pages
- Assisted conversions from blog sessions in GA4
- Email sign-ups captured on articles
- Links and mentions earned by articles
When an older article starts losing clicks, it moves to a refresh list. That work is covered by refreshing and consolidating existing content, so the blog does not keep growing while older posts quietly decay.
Pricing
Blog writing is scoped per project or as a monthly retainer after the free audit. The quote depends on the number of articles, research depth, whether expert review is needed, and how much publishing work happens inside Shopify. See how our pricing is scoped for the general model.
Is this the right service for your store?
It fits well when:
- Your products need explaining, comparing or caring for.
- You have a blog that gets traffic but rarely leads to a product view.
- Your email flows need educational content between promotions. Our email automation work can pull articles into welcome and post-purchase flows.
It is not the first thing to fix when your collection pages have no copy at all, or when your main issue is crawl errors or a slow theme. The audit will tell you which comes first.

Frequently asked questions
The cost depends on article count, length, research depth and whether a subject expert needs to review the work. We quote after a free audit of your current blog, either as a fixed project or a monthly retainer, so you only pay for a scope that matches your catalogue.
Publish only as many as you can keep useful and consistent. A narrow catalogue may need a couple of strong articles a month, while a large multi-category store can support more, and a steady rhythm always beats a burst followed by silence.
Yes, when each article answers a real pre-purchase question and links to the right collection. Blogs that only chase traffic, with no product link, rarely move sales, which is why product fit is one of our topic checks.
Yes. We work from your tone of voice guide, or write a short one with you during scoping, and the first briefs and drafts are where we align on style before writing at volume.
Yes. With staff access we load each article, fill the handle, excerpt, tags, image alt text and search engine listing fields, and save it as hidden so you can preview it before it goes live.
Use separate blogs when you need distinct sections, and keep tags to a small, fixed list. Shopify has no native blog categories, and every tag creates its own URL, so an uncontrolled tag list creates thin pages.
Expect a few months for most articles to settle in search, with timing that depends on your domain's existing authority, the competition for each topic and how well the article is linked internally. Seasonal articles need to be live well before demand starts.
